The event, being put on by Kansas City Aviation Department along with Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate and design-builder Clark|Weitz|Clarkson, will allow people to explore the new terminal’s layout with its parking garage, numerous amenities and variety of restaurant and retail options.

A virtual guided tour, scheduled for 10 a.m. Feb. 18, will be aired online for those who can not make it in person. The tour can be viewed on the BuildKCI YouTube channel @buildkci6252.

“It is only fitting that the very people who supported us throughout this process, and those who helped us deliver this extraordinary facility — the people of Kansas City — should be the first to experience the New Terminal,” Patrick Klein, director of the Kansas City Aviation Department, said in a news release.

The open house will allow people to go on self-guided tour of the 1.1 million square-foot terminal, seeing first-hand the locations of the retail and restaurant options. They will also be able to view the public art and meet some of the local artists who created them.

Representatives of the airlines will be on hand as well as experts from the terminal’s operations, development, design and construction teams. A scavenger hunt and other family-friendly activities will be held.

“In the earliest days of this project, we invited the community to share with us what they wanted to see in the new facility,” Geoff Stricker, Edgemoor senior managing director, said in a news release. “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Kansas Citians to their New Terminal and show them how their ideas and desires are reflected in the final product.”

Design and construction for the new terminal began in 2018. The project is on schedule to be completed on time. The official date of the terminal should be announced in the coming weeks.
