Want another job to kick off the new year? Here are 42 SC government openings paying over $100K

The state of South Carolina is looking for psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and other medical personnel to fill some of the highest paid jobs in government.

The South Carolina careers website lists 42 full-time job openings with top salaries of more than $100,000, including 10 openings for psychologists in various departments around the state, such as the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The website lists openings for seven nurse practitioners with the top pay being over $100,000.

The highest paid opening this week is for a psychiatrist for the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs in Columbia. The annual pay range is $225,000 to $325,000.

The doctor hired would treat with patients who have an intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, and spinal cord injury and similar disability.

Next highest paying opening is for an assistant deputy director for the South Carolina Department of Corrections with an annual salary of between $110,337 and $174,495.

Among the responsibilities of this job is helping manage the state’s 21 institutions that house over 15,500 inmates, including routine visits to the sites and responding to inmate escapes.

Corrections has announced pay raises across the board, with starting pay for officers between $39,140 and $48,925, plus a $7,500 sign-on bonus and the possibility of overtime. There were 215 open positions in the department on Friday.

Patriots Point Development Authority in Charleston, meanwhile, is looking for a director. Salary range is $112,562 to $174,493.

The director oversees operation of the Patriot Point Naval and Maritime museum and associated properties, including hotels, a golf course, a marina and the maintenance of the ships.

It is a job heavy on tourism promotion for a location that bills itself as a hands-on history lesson. On site are the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown, the destroyer USS Laffey, 28 historic aircraft and the Vietnam Experience, which includes a Quonset Hut, mess hall, Howitzer gun, Willys M725 ambulance, helicopters and River Patrol Boat on three acres.

Among the activities for tourists at Patriot’s Point is an overnight stay on the USS Yorktown. The authority is also selling chocolate chip cookies — Captain Jocko’s Chocos — made from a World War II recipe.

Among the new listings are director of desktop services for the Department of Administration in Columbia, top salary $143,415; psychiatric nurse $126,955.00 at Corrections Department in Dorchester County; foster family licensing director for Department of Social Services $117,870.00; pharmacist for the Department of Corrections $117,870.

South Carolina State University in Orangeburg is looking for a chief financial officer at a salary between $77,513 and $143,415.
