Wampum Legion hosting events in June

Wampum is a small town with a lot going on. On June 1, the big upcoming event is the Wampum Community Yard Sale.

For over 25 years beginning at 9 a.m., bargain hunters have been cruising Wampum, Chewton and New Beaver, where almost every house has something for sale.

As part of the annual event, the Wampum American Legion Post 749 at 436 Beaver Street will have hot dogs, drinks and a few other food items for sale.

Marsha Moore, president of the Legion auxiliary, said, in addition to the food for sale, they are having a Legion spring cleaning sale.

“Stop by the Legion and grab a bite to eat and drink and see the many dishes, silverware and other kitchen-related items for sale,” Moore said.

Most of the dishes are from Sharon Mayer pottery/china, heavy-duty restaurant items. There are services for eight people and other items that complement the set, or you can buy a single item.

”You will be buying a piece of history and supporting the Wampum American Legion and our veterans,” Moore said.

Throughout the years, the Legion auxiliary has collected many different dishes, silverware and other kitchen items. Since the trend now is to use disposables, they decided to sell all the items they no longer use. This money will be used to support veterans including donations to the Butler VA Canteen, to be used for the veterans as they see fit.

If it's Monday night in Wampum, it's bingo night. Every Monday, except for holidays, the Legion hall is the place to play bingo with early bird games beginning at 6:30 and regular games at 7 p.m.

The Wampum American Legion Breakfast will not be held in May, June, July and August.
