Wall ISD names Craig Slaughter as new Wall High School head football coach

Wall Independent School District named Craig Slaughter as Wall High School's new head football coach Wednesday after serving as the team's defensive coordinator since 2017.

Slaughter replaces longtime Wall coach Houston Guy who announced that he was not returning to the team next season after 17 years with the program.

In a statement to the Standard-Times, Wall ISD said they did not seek other applicants for the position due to Slaughter's "current success as the Defensive Coordinator and Head Track coach."

The Winters native started his head coaching career in 2006 at Clyde recording a 23-12 overall record highlighted by winning a district title for the first time in 17 years under his direction.

Slaughter was then named the head coach in Sweetwater in 2009 where he posted a 9-21 mark in three seasons, before his most recent head coaching stint at Llano where he went 18-36 and reached the postseason three times, including back-to-back appearances in 2015-2016.

Now, Slaughter takes over a program coming off two back-to-back outright district titles and a Regional final run in 2023.
