Have you ever watched an on-screen love story unfold between the leading characters on your favorite show (or feel-good movie) and thought: This seems too good to be true. In fact, the acting seems a little too real. So real, that we almost start wondering how the two actors are not actually in love. (Can anyone really fake a chemistry that strong?)

This situation might seem very familiar to Supernatural fans who watched sparks fly between characters Sam Winchester and Ruby. Their chemistry was so natural that devoted followers were convinced it couldn't have just been for TV. And they were right! The stars who played Sam and Ruby, Jared Padalecki and Genevieve Cortese, are in fact married in real life. Talk about an on-screen romance!

And that’s not all—the couple continued to work together on the set of the CW’s western reboot, Walker. Though it might have only been for one season, it was fun to see the lovebirds together on screen. As Genevieve said in an Instagram takeover for Walker, "You know what they say...the couple who works together, well, makes it work.😉"

If you live for a good love story, read on for info about how they met, their family life, and their relationship both on and off the screen!

Did Jared and Genevieve meet on the set of "Supernatural"?

Yes! Former Gilmore Girls actor, Jared Padalecki, met Genevieve Cortese in 2008, when she had a recurring role on season 4 of Supernatural as the demon, Ruby, E! News reported.

“What made it work is that we got to know each other for about four months before we went on a date,” Jared said during a 2012 Supernatural panel, according to PopSugar.

And Gen recently told ET, "We met working together and it's how we fell in love, was working together. I honestly feel like we are at our best when we are working together."

When did they get engaged?

Their engagement story is so sweet, you should probably go grab some tissues before we start. Ready? Okay, here we go: Jared proposed to Genevieve in 2009 in front of their favorite painting, "Joan of Arc" by Jules Bastien-Lepage, at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, according to Sun Valley Magazine. Isn't that so romantic?! He also scored points with her family by calling her stepfather and her two brothers to ask for their blessing in advance.

The couple married on February 27, 2010, at a picturesque country club in Genevieve's hometown of Sun Valley, Idaho. Fun fact: The actor who played Jared’s brother on Supernatural, Jensen Ackles, was one of the groomsmen!

Jared wished Gen a happy 10th wedding anniversary on Instagram in February 2020, with a sweet post saying, "Ten years ago today, I was able to convince my best friend to marry me. I can’t even imagine what I must have done in a past life to deserve to be able spend THIS one with this phenomenal women. I am the luckiest man alive. Love you baby. Here’s to 10 THOUSAND more."

Do they have kids?

Jared and Genevieve have three children, sons Thomas Colton, 10, and Austin Shepherd, 9, and daughter Odette Elliott, 5.

Jared regularly shares photos and videos of his family to Instagram. Usually taking a more sentimental approach, thanking Genevieve for her role in making him a great father, the actor will sometimes humor us.

"As a parent, you give your children everything… In return, they give you lice…. 😭🤦♂️
Hope y’all’s weekend is off to a better start than ours!!!
😭🤮 @genpadalecki," he captioned a recent post.

Is Jared's wife on "Walker" now?

Supernatural isn't the only time this husband-and-wife duo have shared the screen. They both joined the cast of Walker, a reboot of the hit '90s show Walker, Texas Ranger, in season 1. Jared stars as the titular character, Cordell Walker, while Genevieve played his late wife, Emily Walker, whose mysterious death is explored in the first season.

Genevieve previously opened up about playing Jared's on-screen wife, telling The Wrap that the show has "churned up different emotions for us," including joy.

Unfortunately, she was only on the show for one season, so you won't see the couple together in season 3 of Walker which premiered on The CW on October 6. But that won't stop us from catching weekly episodes on Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST.
