Being able to stream our favorite shows is great and all (no, really, it is), but anticipating a show for months only to finish it all the day it's released can leave us wondering: What's next? 🤔

Though there's nothing wrong with binging—it can feel nice to discipline yourself with a show that airs on a week-by-week basis. So, our ears obviously perked up a little when The CW announced the details around their new show, Walker Independence. The series (which clearly looks like it will appeal to Yellowstone fans) will be a prequel to Walker, which itself was a modern take on Walker, Texas Ranger (starring Chuck Norris from 1993-2001).

The original CW reboot followed the 'new' Walker, Texas Ranger, Jared Padalecki, who returned home to Austin, Texas, after being undercover for a year. The prime time western was such a hit that the network decided to expand the series with a wild new origin story.

You might be wondering what exactly Walker Independence will entail. Well, we laid out everything you need to know about the prequel of the Western drama, including its plot, release date, and cast.

The trailer is a riveting Western lover's dream.

What's it about?

Talk about a trailer! 🤯 The CW definitely did a good job laying everything out, but in case you need help keeping up, we broke it down for you: Walker Independence is set in the late 1800s and follows Abby Walker—a Boston native at the time. There's nothing shy or timid about our protagonist, so when her husband is murdered (right in front of her!), her journey to the west now focuses on getting revenge. Abby arrives at a small frontier boomtown, Independence, where she's introduced to like-minded people (...who also couldn't be any different from her). When she comes across who she thinks is her husband's killer, it's up to Abby and her newfound friends to take them down.

Who's in the cast?

Katherine McNamara plays our protagonist, Abby Walker. You might know her from her roles in popular shows such as Arrow and Shadowhunters. She's accompanied by Matt Barr, who plays her literal partner in crime, Hoyt Rawlins. Barr played a small roll in CW's Walker, but was notably in the movie The Layover, and shows like Blood & Treasure. The rest of the cast is made up by Greg Hovanessian (Another Life), Justin Johnson Cortez (9-1-1: Lone Star), Lawrence Kao (Wu Assassins), Gabriela Quezada (9-1-1), Philemon Chambers (Single All the Way), and Katie Findlay (Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist).

Where can I watch it?

Walker Independence premieres on The CW on Thursday, October 6 at 9:00 p.m. ET. The show will air on a week-by-week basis, but each episode will be available to stream on the CW app after it has aired.
