A Walk in the Park: New Clinton Trails County Park in DeWitt offers a lake, trails, woods

A Walk in the Park is an ongoing series from State Journal photographer Nick King, who intends to explore Lansing area parks one hour at a time. If you have a suggestion of a park he should visit, email him at nking@lsj.comClinton Trails County Park in DeWitt is Clinton County's newest park.

Located at 7575 W. Pratt Road, it features a wide natural groomed trail leading through its 67 acres. Along the path there's plenty of open space and 20 acres of hardwoods ready for exploration.

A highlight of the new park is a 7-acre lake that looks good for fishing, kayaking and swimming. Take a break from the water to relax or let the kids play on the sandy beach, which takes up a third of the lake's shoreline.

The park is a chock full of wildlife and nature. Deer frolic though the woods and birds and hawks are a common sight. Croaking frogs can be heard from a pond in a lowland, wooded area of the park off the trail.

If coming from Lansing, allow 30 minutes of travel time to get to the park. There's a parking lot at the entrance to the park and a portable restroom on site. The park will be open year round so visitors will be able to experince the space in all four seasons.

A public ribbon-cutting event celebrating the park's official opening is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11 at the park's main entrance.
