A walk-off win for Braddock softball, and Riviera Prep girls’ tennis is 7-0. Plus more results

The Braddock softball team rallied in the last inning to defeat American 11-10.

Trailing by three in the final inning, the Bulldogs scored four times with Maria Gamez driving in the tying and winning runs for the walk-off victory. Reliever Joy Vidal recorded the win.

American (1-1) scored six times in the top of the inning to go ahead 10-7.

Braddock is now 4-1.

In Broward, St. Thomas Aquinas softball scored seven times in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 9, but Western scored the winner in the bottom of the inning for the walk-off victory.

McKenzie Jewell hit a 2-run home run to lead Pompano Beach over Cypress Bay 2-0.

In baseball, Westminster Christian edged Columbus in eight innings. Taravella improved to 6-1, and Sunset remains undefeated at 7-0.

In tennis, the Riviera Prep girls’ team is also undefeated at 7-0.

Water polo

The Belen Jesuit boys’ water polo team was runner-up at the Ian Supra Tournament in Orlando.

The Wolverines opened the event by defeating Lake Mary 11-9 and Boone-Orlando 16-6. Against Lake Mary, Lucas Levy led the team with 3 goals, and Juan Franco and Antonio Franco each had 2. Against Boone, Levy had 5 goals, Andre de Leon had 4 goals, and Antonio Franco added 3 goals.

In the semifinals, Belen defeated West Orange-Winter Garden 17-9. Juan Franco and Antonio Franco led the team with 4 goals apiece. JP Chiappone, Jack Costello, de Leon, and Xavy Caceres each had 2 goals.

In the finals, Gulliver Prep edged Belen 9-8 in overtime.

Belen bounced back two days later by defeating Mater Lakes 15-7. Chiappone and Levy had 4 goals each. Goalie Bryan Weglarz made 11 saves.

The next day on Senior Night, Belen beat Miami Beach 11-5. Juan Franco led the team with 3 goals. Costello had 2 goals, and senior Sam Flores also scored. Weglarz recorded 9 saves.

The Wolverines, ranked No.1 in the state, will compete at the Ransom Everglades Tournament on March 24-25.

Basketball

MiamiDadeBasketball.com will once again host the annual Miami-Dade vs. Broward All-Star Games on Saturday at Dr. Krop High School. The girls’ game will be played at 5:30 pm followed by the boys game at 7 p.m.
