Why is Walgreens closing?

There have been media reports this year of Walgreens closing locations in a few states across the country, including in New York, Alabama, Florida, Minnesota and Vermont.

George York of York Properties told The News & Observer on Monday that Walgreens let the company know they were not renewing their lease at the Lake Boone location and that “this was their choice.”

What’s going into the Walgreens spot?

York said there is no future tenant currently lined up, “but we are beginning to market the space as a single tenant, or we can divide the space in two if there is a good prospect for part of the space.

“Our goal is to find a non-restaurant use for the space.”

The space sits between Village Deli and Unleashed, The Dog & Cat Store.
