Which WA city is happier, Tacoma or Seattle? We asked readers, here is what they said

Earlier this week, The News Tribune reported on a recent study from personal finance site WalletHub that ranked America’s happiest cities. In that list, Seattle almost ranked in the top 10 happiest U.S. cities, coming in at 11th. Meanwhile, Tacoma barely cracked the top 100 at 96th.

We asked readers whether they thought Tacoma or Seattle was the happiest city. Out of 20 responses, Tacoma was the clear victor, raking in 12 votes for happiest to Seattle’s eight.

Seattle vs. Tacoma as happiest city

Tribune reader Bryan Dominique says each city has their pros and cons, but ultimately sides with Tacoma.

“Tacoma is what Seattle used to be,” Dominique wrote. “Today, Tacoma’s downtown is beautiful. We have multiple museums, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, Point Defiance, Point Ruston, and so many other things. The only area Seattle does better at right now is transportation.”

Others commented on how welcoming Tacoma residents are to others.

Another reader, who identified herself only as Lynnett, said that there are “lots of smiling, friendly people in Tacoma … just feels like most people are happy.”

Of course, some responses favored Seattle.

A reader who identified themselves as Pat wrote in with comparisons of each of the city’s central hubs.

“Tacoma really does not have a vibrant downtown city center although both cities have crime,” Pat wrote. “Seattle is more cohesive and people can get around without a car.”
