VSP: One dead in Nelson County crash

AFTON — Virginia State Police said a man was killed Sunday evening in a Nelson County crash.

The fatality took place at 6:40 p.m. on Afton Mountain Road, according to a press release.

Police said the driver of a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was headed east on Afton Mountain Road near Williams Creek Lane when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road. The vehicle continued into a ditch, where it hit a culvert and overturned.

The driver of the Tahoe, Phillip R. Pugh, 65, of Afton, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation.
