Voting in the SC June primary? Here’s your election guide from county council to Congress

Ted Clifford/tclifford@thestate.com

Early voting in South Carolina’s next round of elections begins May 28, two weeks ahead of the June 11 primary, in races from county council to Congress, and I, as The State’s SC opinion editor, interviewed more than 50 candidates in 25 races in Richland and Lexington counties to help voters with their decisions. You can find links to all of those interviews below.

Will longtime U.S. Reps James Clyburn and Joe Wilson get four more years in office? Will Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon fend off challenges from two former department deputies? Who will serve in the South Carolina State House of Representatives and state Senate next year, and on the Richland and Lexington county councils?

You get to decide, and we’re here to help with your voting research. Here are all the candidate Q&As we published before people started voting. We will update this page with The State Editorial Board’s endorsements in all of these races as they are published. Our focus is on contested races in The State’s readership area, so we didn’t do interviews and won’t make endorsements in every race. We are publishing these Q&As first so you can assess candidates on your own. We plan to publish our endorsements over the next week.

You can read about our endorsement process here. You can find your polling place here. If you have questions about our interviews or endorsements, please email me. If there’s something you think we should add to this page, let me know. If this public service helps, please consider supporting our journalism here.
