Voting in Johnson County for Kansas’ midterm elections? Your polling place may have changed

Some Johnson County voters can expect polling site changes ahead of Election Day on Nov. 8.

Ahead of the August primaries Theresa Freed, a spokeswoman with the Johnson County Election Office, previously said the office sent postcards to all voters with information about their specific polling locations.

But several Johnson County voters said they showed up to their usual polling place, only to learn the site had changed. Those voters were told they could either go to the new location or vote on a provisional paper ballot.

The election office expects more polling site changes ahead of the Nov. 8 election. Voters from the impacted areas can expect to receive postcards with their precinct location around early October, Freed said.

Fred Sherman, the Johnson County Election Commissioner, wrote in a statement that the office tries to limit polling site reassignments as much as possible, but some are necessary.

“So far, we’re preparing for several locations that were open for the primary but will no longer be available for the general election,” Sherman said. “An example of this is a school site, with school now in session.”

Below are the changes officials know of now, listed with the number of registered voters they’ll affect.
