Voter registration deadline approaching in San Juan County for June primary election

San Juan County residents who have not yet registered to vote in the June primary election have approximately three weeks left to do so.

The deadline for registering is Tuesday, May 7. Voters may register online or update their existing registration if they have moved or wish to switch their party affiliation by visiting sjcclerk.net. Anyone who has not voted in awhile and wishes to see if their registration remains active may do so through that same website.

Early voting for the primary also will begin on May 7 and continue through Friday, May 17. The opportunity to vote will be offered from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each weekday at the San Juan County Clerk’s Office in the San Juan County Administration Building at 100 S. Oliver Drive in Aztec.

An additional round of early voting at other sites will begin Saturday, May 18 and continuing through Saturday, June 1. Those sites are the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park, 3041 E. Main St. in Farmington; the Farmington Public Library, 2101 Farmington Ave. in Farmington; the Bloomfield Cultural Center, 333 S. 1st St. in Bloomfield; the Central Consolidated School District Business Office off U.S. Highway 64 in Shiprock; and the Newcomb Fire Station off U.S. Highway 491 in Newcomb.

Voting will be offered at those locations from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays, although voting will not be offered on Memorial Day.

The San Juan County clerk’s office in Aztec also will offer early voting May 17 through June 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays. The office will be closed on Memorial Day.

Absentee ballots will be available in San Juan County starting Tuesday, May 7. The County Clerk’s Office will stop mailing absentee ballots on Tuesday, May 21.

Voters in the June primary will be deciding on party nominees for a variety of federal, state and local offices. In San Juan County, the list includes state legislative offices, San Juan County Commission seats and other offices. Many of the candidates who filed for those seats in March are running unopposed in their party primary.
