Vote for York County Student of the Week: Honoring our great students

Here's your chance to vote for the York Daily Record and Evening Sun Student of the Week!

Each week, York County school districts have the opportunity to nominate high school students whose hard work deserves recognition.

We will provide brief bios of each nominee's accomplishments, and our readers can vote on who they think should be recognized.

Submissions must come from school officials, so if you know a student whose good work deserves recognition, reach out to teachers or administrators and encourage them to nominate your student.

Vote for your choice in the poll below. Voting opens at 5 a.m. Monday, May 6 and closes at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 9.

This week's nominees:

Brendan Coulson, a senior at South Western High School, actively participates in various extracurricular activities. He is a member of the Student Council, National Honor Society and Quiz Bowl, contributing significantly to fostering school spirit and improving the school culture. Brendan's vibrant and dynamic personality also shines through on the baseball field, accompanied by strong leadership skills that have helped to propel the baseball team to an impressive 15-0 record. He is always lifting his teammates up with his positive attitude and commitment to excellence. In the classroom, Brendan stands out for his inquisitive nature, often posing thought-provoking questions that encourage critical thinking about the practical applications of the curriculum. For instance, he and his peers in his AP Psychology course experimented with introducing "Jorts Fridays" at South Western during the fall semester to observe its impact on the school environment and to see if it would catch on as a trend. Brendan plans on attending college and majoring in finance.

Miranda Kovach, a senior at York Catholic, was involved in Cheerleading, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Jazz Combo, Concert Band, Concert Choir, Musical Theater, Costume Crew, Student Ambassadors, National Honor Society, Diversity Club, Stewards of the Earth Club, and served as the editor of the School Newspaper. She was also a community theater board member, camp counselor, and rehearsal pianist, a parish accompanist, held several part-time jobs, and was a volunteer at the SPCA. Miranda has been a consistent Distinguished Honor Roll student and will graduate in the Top 10 of her class. Miranda will attend Penn State University to major in Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences.

Aiden Silva, a junior at Kennard-Dale High School, has many talents. He is a top-notch student with aspirations to become a physician and works diligently every day to achieve that goal. Outside the classroom, Aiden is a fixture in the Drama Club and has held leading roles in several musicals. This year, he advanced to the Regional PMEA Choir Festival - a feat not accomplished by a Kennard-Dale student in several years. If you want to hear him sing, just hop on a streaming platform such as Spotify and you will find his first single that he recorded with a music producer in Nashville.
