Vote for the winner of the high school Student of the Week in The Patriot Ledger

Here are this week's nominees for Student of the Week. Nominations come from high school staff members. But you, our readers, make the decision in our poll found at the bottom of this story. Look for our newest poll each Monday morning. We're proud to highlight the achievements of high school students. This feature is similar to our Athlete of the Week.

Philippe Cunha, 16, of Whitman, a junior at South Shore Regional Vocational Technical High School, is a student in the electrical program who is already taking advantage of the co-op program and getting out into the "real world" and earning some on the job experience. His excellent academic record qualified him for this opportunity, and he jumped at it the first chance he got. Philippe is someone who is combining his challenging academic work with his hands on skills to become the best he can be.

Dah'kye Garner, 17, a junior at Scituate High School, has a passion for fashion. Using Ms. Maguire's sewing machine, he has taught himself to sew. He took a class at Mass Art over April break about fashion upcycling. This is not a pathway that young, urban men typically gravitate to, but Dah'kye has embraced it and is thriving.

Votes are unlimited. Voting closes on Thursday, May 9, at noon. Emailed votes will not be counted. Is your school interested in nominating someone? A school staff member should email studentoftheweek@patriotledger.com for more information.
