Vote for track and field top performers: Standouts in conference, county and city meets

Get your votes in by noon Friday for high school track and field athlete of the week for May 6-11.

Girls sectionals are Tuesday and boys sectionals are Thursday.

Callie Bentley, East Central: The sophomore swept four events at the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference meet with victories in the 800 meters (2:20.61), 1,600 (5:11.95), 3,200 (12:00.16) and 4x400 relay (4:02.84). East Central won the team title by 20 points over Batesville.

Naarah Byard, Crawfordsville: Byard, a junior, went 4-for-4 in her events at the Sagamore Conference meet and set a school record in the 100-meter dash (12.63 seconds). She was also the long jump winner (16-11) and part of her team’s wins in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Brock Conrad, Floyd Central: The junior swept the shot put (53-5 ½) and discus (178-5) to win the Hoosier Hills Conference titles. Floyd Central ran away with the team championship.

Nick Cook, Wapahani: The senior pulled off a sweep at the Mid-Eastern Conference meet with victories in the 800-meter run (2:01.17), 1,600 meters (4:24.58), 4x400 relay (3:34.41) and 4x800 relay (8:30.77). Cook’s performance helped his team to a championship.

Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian: The junior standout was named female athlete of the meet at the City meet as she broke a 37-year City record in the long jump (19-3 ¾) and also won the 200 meters (25.73 seconds) and high jump (5-9). Her 4x100-meter relay team finished third (51.09 seconds).

Brock DeBello, Tri-West: The junior broke the school and Sagamore Conference meet record in the 400 meters (49.09 seconds).

Luke Himes, Heritage Christian: The senior and Notre Dame recruit broke a 29-year record in the City meet in the discus (183-8) and broke his own City record in the shot put (64-11).

Dehnm Holt, North Central: The junior won the 400 meters (47.94 seconds to set a county record) and led his 4x400-meter relay team to a victory at the Marion County meet. North Central won a tightly contested team championship.

Damario Moore, Lawrence North: The junior won the 100-meter dash (10.95 seconds) and 300 hurdles (38.65 seconds) at the Marion County meet.

Kylee Regalado, Tri-West: The sophomore pulled off the same feat as teammate DeBello on the girls’ side, setting a school and Sagamore Conference meet record in the 400 (59.15 seconds). She also won the 200-meter dash (26.84 seconds) and was second to Byard in the 100 (12.70 seconds) and long jump.

Julia Score, Bishop Chatard: The sophomore was one of the standouts at the City meet as she won the 800-meter run (2:19.11) and 1,600 meters (5:00.08) to help the Trojans win the City title.

Laila Smith, Warren Central: Smith, a senior, set a new Marion County meet record in the 300 hurdles (43.07 seconds) and also won the 100 hurdles (14.59 seconds). She was second in the long jump (19-0) and ran on the second place 4x400 relay team.

Bella Sotelo, Eastern Hancock: The freshman swept four events at the Mid-Eastern Conference meet, winning the 100-meter dash (12.58 seconds), 200 meters (26.60 seconds), 100 hurdles (14.94 seconds) and 300 hurdles (45.44 seconds). She broke the MEC records in both hurdle races and helped her team to its first conference title since 2018.
