Vote: Who is the Topeka area's high school athlete of the week for April 8-13?

The spring sports season is starting to take shape with the top teams showcasing their elite skills. Within these great teams are stand-out players that are making impacts each time they take the field, swimming pool or course.

Vote for the Capital-Journal’s athlete of the week for April 8-13. Voting closes at noon on Thursday. Here are the nominees:

Drayden Acosta, Topeka High baseball

The sophomore came up clutch for the Trojans in their 3-2 victory against Emporia on Friday. He hit the game-winning RBI in the fifth inning to seal the victory. The win helped Topeka High move its record to 8-3 and it is on a three-game winning streak.

Myles Alonzo, Topeka West golf

The senior finished in second place in the Manhattan Invitational on Monday. Alonzo shot a round of 76 which was just two shots back of first place.

The senior was excellent in Seaman’s 10-0 win over Turner on Tuesday. Finley hurled five innings and allowed one hit in the victory. He struck out 12 batters to dominate the game.

The junior was in the right place at the right time all game against Hayden on Friday. Hinck scored two first half goals in Washburn Rural’s 3-0 win to highlight the victory. The win helped Washburn Rural move to 7-2. It is also on a four-game winning streak.

Ahsieyrhuajh Rayton, Topeka High track and field

The freshman threw her name into the ring as one of the top jumpers in the state last week. Rayton won the triple jump in Friday’s Manhattan Invitational with a mark of 37-feet 8-inches. This jump places her the third best in the state.

The Rockhurst commit was dominate in Wednesday’s Topeka West Invitational. She won the 100-yard backstroke and finished in second place in the 500-yard freestyle to highlight the meet for the Vikings. Seaman came away in second place in the team standings.
