Vote for the SouthCoast High School Softball Player of the Week for April 22-28
The winner of last week’s Softball Player of the Week poll was Dartmouth’s Paige Martins. She had more than 15,000 votes (46%) to receive the honor. In a win over Fairhaven, Martins went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
The preview winners were Wareham’s Jolee Anderson and Samantha Purcell. The winner of the Preseason Softball Player of the Year poll was New Bedford’s Hayleigh Chenard.

SOFTBALL: Dartmouth sophomore caps dramatic comeback with solo HR for walk-off win in extra innings
Lauren Bernaiche, Apponequet
Bernaiche was the winning pitcher against Case and Dighton-Rehoboth, striking out a combined 20 batters and allowing just four total runs. She also went 2-for-2 at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored against West Bridgewater.
Christina Magnett, Apponequet
Magenett went a combined 4-for-6 with two RBIs and three runs scored against Case and Dighton-Rehoboth.
Caleigh Venuti, Apponequet
Against Case, Venuti had a three-run home run.
Eva Zuber, Apponequet
Not only did Zuber drive in the go-ahead run in a 2-1 win over Dighton-Rehoboth, she went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored against West Bridgewater.
Sidney Alboum, Bishop Stang
In games against New Bedford and Dartmouth, Alboum went a combined 4-of-6 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Katie Manzone, Bishop Stang
In three games, Manzone had a combined five hits, an RBI and three runs scored.
Megan Arruda, Dartmouth
Arruda struck out 11 while walking three and allowing one earned run in a win over Durfee.
Olivia Rapoza, Dartmouth
Rapoza lifted Dartmouth to an extra-inning comeback win over Bishop Stang with a solo home run in the eighth inning. She finished with two hits and five RBIs.
Kaia Furtado, Fairhaven
Furtado went 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs against West Bridgewater.
Sydney Merusi, Fairhaven
In three games, Merusi went a combined 4-for-7 with a home run and three RBIs.
Stella Zangao, Fairhaven
Against West Bridgewater, Zangao went 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs.

Genesis Nunes, GNB Voc-Tech
Against Seekonk, Nunes went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two-RBI single.
Ana Tsonis, GNB Voc-Tech
Tsonis captured a win over Seekonk on the mound, allowing one run on five hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks. Against Middleboro, she went 3-for-3 at the plate with a home run and RBI. She also allowed five runs on 12 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Hayleigh Chenard, New Bedford
Chenard was the winning pitcher for the Whalers in three straight games. Against Stang, she allowed three runs on eight hits with five walks while striking out eight. Against Durfee, she allowed three earned runs off eight hits and three walks while striking out 10. She also went 2-for-2 with a single, solo home run and three runs scored against the Hilltoppers.
Lily Gonet, New Bedford
Gonet had two hits against Bishop Stang and drove in the winning run in the eighth inning.
Ava Kaplan, New Bedford
Against Brockton, Kaplan went 5-for-5 with four singles, one double, two runs scored and five RBIs.
Lindsey Bacchiocchi, Old Colony
Against Cape Cod Tech, Bacchiocchi went 3-for-3 with a triple, three stolen bases, five runs scored and three RBIs.
Kayleigh DeSousa, Old Colony
In two games, DeSousa went a combined 8-for-9 with 12 RBIs and nine runs scored. He also had a home run against Bristol-Aggie.
Emma Yelle, Old Colony
Yell went 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs against Bristol-Aggie.
Tara Goldman, Old Rochester
In two games, Goldman had a combined 16 strikeouts.
Jolee Anderson, Wareham
In three games, Anderson went a combined 10-for-12 with 12 RBIs and nine runs scored. She also combined to pitch a five-inning, no-hitter with eight strikeouts in three innings.
Olivia LaCava, Wareham
In two games, LaCava went a combined 6-for-9 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Madison Nereu, Wareham
Against Avon, Nereu pitched a five-inning no-hitter with one earned run and 12 strikeouts. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBIs. She also went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, five runs scored in addition to pitching five innings, allowing no earned runs on three hits with two walks and seven strikeouts against Dennis-Yarmouth. She combined with Jolee Anderson for a five-inning, no-hitter against Avon. She struck out six over two innings and had an RBI and two runs scored.
