Vote for the Savannah Morning News Athlete of the Week in an open poll

The high school sports season is winding down, but Savannah area athletes were going full speed this weekend at the GHSA State Track and Field meets held throughout Georgia.

Coastal Empire competitors came through with seven state title performances, with Savannah Christian senior Jadyn Singleton taking home two gold medals.

The Calvary Day baseball team was also on fire as the Cavs advanced to the Class 3A state championship series with a win over Mary Persons in a three-game series.

Here's a chance for readers to weigh in and select the Savannah Morning News Athlete of the Week in an open poll with no restrictions on voting. The poll will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17.

Here are this week's candidates.

Jadyn Singleton, Savannah Christian

The senior won the Class 3A state title in the long jump (18-feet-6 inches) and the triple jump (39-1) and was fourth in the 100 meters (12.15) to earn the High Point Award at the event.

Billy Cunningham, Richmond Hill

The junior won the Class 7A state title in the long jump with a personal best mark of 24-0.

Jamari McIvory, Savannah Christian

The senior closed out his prep career as he defended his Class 3A title by winning the 400 meters in 47.11, while finishing second in the 200 meters (21.45).

Coray Stafford, Jenkins

The junior came on strong in the final meet of the year to win the Class 5A state crown in the 100 meters with a time of 10.63. He finished seventh in the 200 meter finals (22.51).

Andrew Wynn, Savannah Country Day

Wynn closed out his junior year in style as he won the Class 3A 300-meter hurdle title with a time of 39.16, while finishing second in the 110 meter hurdles (14.59). Both times were personal bests.

Benedictine 4x200 relay team

The Cadets won the Class 4A crown with a time of 1:27.11. Team members included Na’Seir Samuel, Jack Ganem, Stanley Smart, Jr., and Bubba Frazier.

Jada Brown, Richmond Hill

The junior finished second in the Class 7A shot put finals with a throw of 41-3.75 and was fourth in the discus (120-9).

Max Arnold, Calvary Day

The junior went 3 for 4 with a home run, a stolen base and four RBIs as Calvary Day beat Mary Persons 12-1 in the second game of their semifinal series.

Billy Johnson, Jenkins

The senior finished second in the Class 5A 300 hurdles with a time of 37.95 and was fifth in the 110 hurdles (14.64).

Will Hampton, Calvary Day

The senior had a complete game shutout, striking out seven and allowing two hits in a 2-0 win over Mary Persons in a deciding Game 3 of the Class 3A state semifinals.

Le'Ryah Bryant, Johnson

The senior was fifth in the Class 3A 200 meters (25.20) and third in the long jump (18-0).
