Vote for the Savannah Morning News Athlete of the Week in an open poll

GHSA playoffs are in full swing with baseball, soccer and lacrosse teams making their way through the brackets, while track and field athletes competed in region meets throughout the state last week.

There were some impressive individual performances by athletes from the Savannah area, and this is a chance for readers to weigh in and select the Savannah Morning News Athlete of the Week in an open poll with no restrictions on voting.

The poll closes on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m.

Here are this week's candidates.

Jamari McIvory, Savannah Christian

The senior won the Region 3-3A 200- and 400-meter dash titles and finished second in the 100 on Friday. On Monday, he was announced as the winner of the 71st annual Ashley Dearing Award as the most versatile male high school athlete in Savannah.

Katelyn Sadley, Savannah Arts

The senior had a pair of goals in a playoff win over Jeff Davis as the Panthers advanced to the Class 2A Elite Eight in the GHSA state soccer playoffs.

Calvin Rose, Benedictine

The senior led the BC lacrosse team to an 11-10 playoff win over Holy Innocents in double overtime. He scored seven goals, including a goal with 12 seconds left to send the game to extra time and the game winner.

Olivia Akins, St. Vincent's

The freshman netted both goals in SVA's Sweet 16 girls soccer playoff win at Richmond Academy.

Will Hampton, Calvary Day

The Vanderbilt-bound senior went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs in the Cavs' playoff opening win over Jackson, and tripled and scored a run in the second game as the Cavs swept the series.

Garrett Lorfano, Savannah Country Day

The Flagler College-bound senior had a 3-run homer in SCD's opening win in a playoff series with Peach County, and hit two more in the final game as the Hornets' season came to an end.

John Dodson, Benedictine

The junior won the 1600 meters (4:43.28) and 3200 (10:14.73) to help lead the Cadets to the team title in the Region 3-4A track and field meet.

Marissa Palmer, New Hampstead

The senior won the 100 meters (12.75) and the 200 (26.58) at the Region 3-4A track and field meet.

Chase Buerger, Savannah Country Day

The senior scored a pair of goals as SCD beat Richmond Academy 4-0 to advance to the Class 3A state soccer quarterfinals.

Jadyn Singleton, Savannah Christian

The senior won the Region 3-3A title in the 100 meters (12.37), and finished third in the triple jump (36-2) and second in the long jump (18-0.5).

Josh Quarterman, Johnson

The senior won the high jump by an inch over Shiv Patel of Savannah Christian with a leap of 6-foot-6 at the Region 3-3A meet. The mark is tied for the sixth best this season among all classifications in the state, and the best in Class 3A. He also finished second to Patel in the long jump with a mark of 20-9.

Shiv Patel, Savannah Christian

The senior won the Region 3-3A long jump title with a leap of 21-1 and was second in the high jump (6-7) and third in the 100 meters (11.25).

Landon Ludwig, Benedictine

The junior didn't allow a hit or a run in five innings, striking out eight, and went 1-for-4 with a double, two runs and four RBIs in a playoff win over Baldwin.

Parker McCoy, Benedictine

The senior allowed one hit and no runs over five innings, striking out six and went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs to lead BC to a playoff sweep over Baldwin.
