Madylin Smith, Petoskey soccer

In her first two Big North Conference games a week ago, Smith, only a freshman, scored her first career varsity goal against Cadillac, then added what would be the game-winner in a 1-0 final over TC Central.

Hunter Lemerand, Charlevoix baseball

Lemerand had an overall solid week for Charlevoix baseball, but the highlight came in a perfect game thrown against Marion on Friday. He struck out 13 batters across six innings and didn’t allow a base-runner. He was also part of a triple play against Evart.

Kam Horn, Petoskey baseball

In a pair of doubleheaders last week, Petoskey’s Horn showed he’s trying to follow in his all-state brother’s footsteps with four hits, five RBIs, a double and a stolen base. One of the hits also came as a walk-off in the bottom of the sixth against the Sault.

Natalie Grobaski, Boyne City softball

Boyne City’s bats have been pretty hot to start the season and Grobaski, a sophomore, went 7 for 13 with a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored a week ago.

Korbyn Russell, East Jordan baseball

Russell is off to just the start everyone expected. Last week, he tossed a 13-strikeout no-hitter against Ellsworth, then added another 13-strikeout win. He also went 8 for 12 with three doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Derk Boerman, Harbor Light baseball

There have been a lot of hot bats in the Swordsmen lineup to start the year, but Boerman got it done around the diamond last week. He earned two pitching wins, one coming with 10 strikeouts, then also went 4 for 7 with a homer, four RBIs and run scored.
