It’s time to vote for the Petoskey News-Review Athlete of the Week!

All results come from Monday, April 29 through Saturday, May 4.

Vote for these athletes from Tuesday, May 7 to 2 p.m., Friday, May 10.

Congratulations to last week’s Athlete of the Week winner, Kacey Gray of Boyne City. Gray earned 35.5 percent of the votes in a tight race with Charlevoix’s Bryce Johnson.

Owen Waha, Charlevoix baseball

Waha has been standing out on the mound and at the plate of late. On Saturday, he went 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and pitched three innings with five strikeouts and a lone hit allowed against Greenville. He also pitched three innings without allowing a hit or walk against St. Francis last week.

Madelyn Hardy, East Jordan track

There’s seemingly nothing Hardy can’t do on the track and she’s showing it. In Gaylord late last week, she was first in the 100 hurdles in 16.73, a new PR, first in the 300 hurdles in a new PR of 50.54, was part of a first place 4x100 win (54.05) and first in the long jump in a season best 16-9.75.

Sam Mitas, Petoskey track

Mitas was a big record-setter last week at the Ken Bell Invite. He set the school record with a win in the 100 meter dash in 10.95, broke his own school record in the 200 in 22.44 and was part of a school record 4x100 team in 43.04.

Sidney Bush, Boyne City softball

Bush continues to get it done as a hitter and pitcher for Boyne City softball. Against Kalkaska last week, she picked up two RBIs in the opener, then pitched six shutout innings with just two hits and a walk issued, along with seven strikeouts in the nightcap. She was also 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. She also went 2 for 3 and added an RBI vs. Ogemaw Heights.

Garrett Wodek, Petoskey baseball

Wodek was Mr. Clutch last week for PHS baseball. He had a great pitching performance against Cadillac, going seven innings with just two hits allowed and eight strikeouts. He also had a walk-off hit to bring on a win over Greenville over the weekend.

Alexandra Petok, Petoskey track

Only a freshman, Petok is hitting her stride on the track with PHS. In the Ken Bell Invite, Petok placed fourth in the 300 hurdles with a new personal best in 48.58, was part of a school record in the 4x100 in 49.88 and was part of a runner-up 4x400 team in 4:16.83 at Ken Bell.

Troy Johnson, Alanson baseball

Johnson tossed a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts against Wolverine last week. He also went 4 for 4 with a double, four runs, two RBIs and six steals. He then doubled in game two, a 16-4 win.
