Welcome to the second installment of the 2024 spring season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.

This week, and every week during the sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete.

How do I cast my vote?

All voting is through the two ballots at burlingtonfreepress.com. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.

Voting began April 29, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

How do we learn who wins?

The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

How can I nominate an athlete?

We accept nominations via email: sports@burlingtonfreepress.com (Subject Line: Athletes of the Week nomination).

Girls Athlete of the Week nominees

Athanasia Boyer, Colchester softball: After fanning nine and allowing one hit and no runs over three innings in a five-inning win over Burlington/Winooski, the lefty Boyer tossed a perfect game with 11Ks in a 12-0 decision at Middlebury. She also doubled and drove in three runs in the victory over Middlebury.

Taeya Guetti, Mount Anthony softball: The senior wielded a hot bat in a trio of rout victories for the Patriots. Guetti went 4-for-4 with an RBI vs. Bellows Falls and 2-for-4 with three RBIs vs. Burr and Burton before mashing a pair of home runs, doubling and driving in three runs vs. South Burlington.

Makenna Lovelette, Enosburg softball: In a 3-0 week in the circle, Lovelette totaled 19 innings pitched, allowing two runs and no earned runs while fanning 30. She also recorded a no-hitter with 11Ks vs. Richford. At the plate, Lovelette went 6-for-9 with four doubles and three RBIs over the three games.

Molly Medor, Missisquoi softball: The Thunderbirds ace tossed a two-hit, complete game with 15 strikeouts in an 8-1 win over Essex. She then fired a three-hit shutout with another 15Ks in MVU's 3-0 win over Mount Abraham.

Sydney Schoenbeck, Rivendell track and field: The sophomore captured the 100 hurdles (15.84 seconds), high jump (4 feet, 11.75 inches) and long jump (15-11.75) while finishing second in the 200 at the Windsor Invitational on Saturday.

Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

Tobey Appenzeller, Essex baseball: After twirling a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in Essex's season-opening win over Burlington, Appenzeller went three innings, allowing one hit and one run, for the victory in a 13-3, five-inning victory over BFA-St. Albans. The senior also went 2-for-4 at the plate vs. BFA.

Jordan Davis, Hartford track and field: The senior swept the throwing events at the Windsor Invitational on Saturday. He won shot put (41-10), discus (127-5.25) and javelin (147-4.5).

Jacoby Dicranian, Mount Anthony baseball: The freshman standout drilled a pair of home runs and drove in six runs in MAU's 13-3 triumph over Hoosick Falls. He then went 2-for-3 with two RBIs in a 6-2 decision over Burr and Burton before silencing South Burlington bats with a complete-game, five-hitter in the Patriots' 4-2 road win.

Toby Draper, Middlebury lacrosse: After racking up six goals and four assists in a 16-9 win over Harwood, Draper produced another six-goal game to go with a trio of helpers in Middlebury's 15-6 victory over Woodstock.

Peter Gilliam, Champlain Valley lacrosse: Gilliam started his week with four goals and an assist in a 11-4 win at BFA-St. Albans. He recorded the same stat line to lead CVU past Woodstock 11-5 before capping the week with a two-goal, one-assist effort in an 11-3 decision over Mount Anthony.
