Vote now to pick who will be this week's Providence Journal Softball Player of the Week

Who were the best players on the softball field last week?

With only 11 scores reported from the entire week, it’s tough to tell. There were a lot of great performances, but we managed to get the number to five.

So how does a player get nominated for Player of the Week? It’s simple.

It starts with coaches sending in results to the Journal.

Sending in results is the responsibility of the head coach of the home team, but we don’t care who sends it in as long as someone does.

Scores and stats can either be called in at 401-277-7340 – or emailed to PJSports@ProvidenceJournal.com by 10 p.m. on the day of the game. That doesn’t mean 10:15 or 6 a.m. the following morning.

We need the final score, three players to highlight from the winning team and one from the losing team. If there’s an important detail – a game-winning hit, game-changing play, etc. – please include that as well.

Everyone in the state uses GameChanger, so this should be incredibly easy. You can email us the box scores from the game and the AI report they use and we can work off of it.

When compiling nominees for Player of the Week, we go over the games that were called in and pick the best of the best, then narrow that list down to five.

Who wins is up to you.

The award is meant to be an interactive way for the state’s softball community to get involved with coverage and the sport. There’s no prize for winning, other than clout. If you want to win, we encourage players, parents, coaches and schools to create social media campaigns to get friends, family, classmates and whoever else to vote, vote and vote some more.

Voting is free and you can vote as many times as you’d like between now and Thursday night. The winner will be posted to the Providence Journal website Friday morning.
