Winners of The News Tribune’s Athletes of the Week (Feb. 27 to March 4)

Voting is now closed for The News Tribune’s Athlete of the Week (Feb. 27 to March 4). Thanks to everyone who voted and supported local student-athletes.

This week’s winners are:

Vaughn Weems, Federal Way boys basketball and Kiara Stone, Bellarmine Prep girls basketball

Weems scored a game-high 25 points in the Eagles’ win over Mount Si in the third-fifth place game at the 4A state tournament, a team-high 20 points in a loss to Curtis in the semifinals and 14 points in a win over Skyline in the quarterfinals. Added 23 rebounds, 10 assists, seven steals and five blocks in the three games.

Stone scored a game-high 34 points in the Lions’ win over Davis in the opening round at the 4A state tournament, 16 points in a loss to Eastlake in the quarterfinals and 12 points in a loss to Emerald Ridge in the consolation round. Added 16 rebounds, four assists and three steals in the three games.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Luke Brewer, Tumwater boys basketball — Scored a game-high 35 points in the T-Birds’ win over North Kitsap in the fourth-sixth place game at the 2A state tournament, 18 points in a win over Enumclaw in the consolation round, 10 points in a loss to Mark Morris in the quarterfinals and a game-high 22 points in a win over Renton in the opening round. Added 22 rebounds, 11 assists and eight steals in the four games.

Brendon Brown, Chief Leschi boys basketball — Scored a team-high 16 points, and added nine rebounds and one assist in a 2B state opening round loss to Northwest Christian of Colbert.

Dalton Brown, Tahoma boys basketball — Scored 14 points and added four rebounds, two assists, one steal and two blocks in a 4A state opening round loss to Camas.

Adam Davis, Tahoma boys basketball — Scored a team-high 23 points and added eight rebounds and four assists in a 4A state opening round loss to Camas.

Zoom Diallo, Curtis boys basketball — 4A state tournament MVP scored a game-high 21 points in the Vikings’ championship game win over Olympia, a game-high 25 points in a win over Federal Way in the semifinals and 18 points in a win over Camas in the quarterfinals. Added 18 rebounds, nine assists, two steals and four blocks in the three games.

Carter DeRosier, Enumclaw boys basketball — Scored seven points in the Hornets’ win over Anacortes in the opening round at the 2A state tournament, a team-high 19 points in a loss to Pullman in the quarterfinals and a team-high 14 points in a loss to Tumwater in the consolation round. Added 11 rebounds, six assists, six steals and one block in the three games.

Andreas Engholm, Olympia boys basketball — Scored a team-high 11 points in the Bears’ 4A state championship game loss to Curtis, a game-high 23 points in a win over Mount Si in the semifinals and team-high 14 points in a win over Gonzaga Prep in the quarterfinals. Added 11 rebounds, two assists, three steals and three blocks in the three games.

Parker Gerrits, Olympia boys basketball — Scored seven points in the Bears’ 4A state championship game loss to Curtis, six points in a win over Mount Si in the semifinals and a team-high 14 points in a win over Gonzaga Prep in the quarterfinals. Added 30 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and two blocks in the three games.

Darell Gipson, Timberline boys basketball — Scored 15 points, and add added eight rebounds, four blocks and one steal in a 3A state opening round loss to Bellevue.

Brooklyn Hicks, Timberline boys basketball — Scored a game-high 17 points, and added 11 rebounds, three assists and two steals in the a 3A state opening round loss to Bellevue.

Connor Hopkins, Tumwater boys basketball — Scored 17 points in the T-Birds’ win over North Kitsap in the fourth-sixth place game at the 2A state tournament, a game-high 19 points in a win over Enumclaw in the consolation round, two points in a loss to Mark Morris in the quarterfinals and 11 points in a win over Renton in the opening round. Added 13 rebounds, five assists and five steals in the four games.

Reggie Lester, Annie Wright boys basketball — Scored a game-high 24 points in the Gators’ 1A state opening round loss to King’s, and a team-high 11 points in a consolation round loss to Overlake. Added nine rebounds and two steals in the two games.

TJ Marshall, Annie Wright boys basketball — Scored 14 points in the Gators’ 1A state opening round loss to King’s, and a team-high 11 points in a consolation game round to Overlake. Added two rebounds, one assist and four steals in the two games.

David Mesler, Sound Christian boys basketball — Scored 12 points, and added nine rebounds and one block in a 1B state opening round loss to Moses Lake Christian.

Tyrell Nichols, Auburn boys basketball — Scored a team-high 17 points in the Trojans’ loss to Mount Spokane in the third-fifth place game at the 3A state tournament, a game-high 20 points in a loss to Garfield in the semifinals, 11 points in a win over Eastside Catholic in the quarterfinals and 15 points in a win over Arlington in the opening round. Added 26 rebounds, 12 assists, four steals and one block in the four games.

Tyce Paulsen, Curtis boys basketball — Scored seven points in the Vikings’ 4A state championship game win over Olympia, 15 points in a win over Federal Way in the semifinals and a game-high 20 points in a win over Camas in the quarterfinals. Added 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals and four blocks in the three games.

Dace Pleasant, Federal Way boys basketball — Scored 24 points in the Eagles’ win over Mount Si in the third-fifth place game at the 4A state tournament, 11 points in a loss to Curtis in the semifinals and a game-high 20 points in a win over Skyline in the quarterfinals. Added 18 rebounds, five assists and eight steals in the three games.

Noah Sebrands, Enumclaw boys basketball — Scored a game-high 22 points in the Hornets’ win over Anacortes in the opening round at the 2A state tournament, 11 points in a loss to Pullman in the quarterfinals and 10 points in a loss to Tumwater in the consolation round. Added eight rebounds, 10 assists and three steals in the three games.

Thad TenKley, North Thurston boys basketball — Scored a game-high 25 points, and added nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals in a 3A state opening round loss to Mountlake Terrace.

Luvens Valcin, Auburn boys basketball — Scored 16 points in the Trojans’ loss to Mount Spokane in the third-fifth place game at the 3A state tournament, eight points in a loss to Garfield in the semifinals, nine points in a win over Eastside Catholic in the quarterfinals and a game-high 17 points in a win over Arlington in the opening round. Added 34 rebounds, 10 assists, five steals and three blocks in the four games.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Angelica Askey, Rainier girls basketball — Scored 13 points in the Mountaineers’ win over Upper Columbia Academy in the opening round at the 2B state tournament, a team-high 10 points in a loss to Colfax in the quarterfinals and game-high 22 points in a loss to La Conner in the consolation round. Added six rebounds, three assists and five steals in the three games.

Maya Barnett, Emerald Ridge girls basketball — Scored a team-high eight points in the Jaguars’ loss to Woodinville in the fourth-sixth place game at the 4A state tournament, a team-high 16 points in a win over Bellarmine Prep in the consolation round and 11 points in a loss to Kamiakin in the quarterfinals. Added 31 rebounds and five assists in the three games.

Olivia Collins, Sumner girls basketball — Scored a game-high 20 points, and added nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in a 4A state opening round loss to Gonzaga Prep.

Keiara Curtis, Bellarmine Prep girls basketball — Scored 10 points in the Lions’ win over Davis in the opening round at the 4A state tournament, a game-high 25 points in a loss to Eastlake in the quarterfinals and a team-high 21 points in a loss to Emerald Ridge in the consolation round. Added eight rebounds, five assists, eight steals and three blocks in the three games.

Natalie DeMarco, Enumclaw girls basketball — Scored a team-high 10 points, and added one rebound and three steals in a 2A state opening round loss to Tumwater.

Oliviyah Edwards, Lincoln girls basketball — Scored a team-high 18 points in the Abes’ loss to Stanwood in the fourth-sixth place game at the 3A state tournament, 14 points in a win over Meadowdale in the consolation round, a game-high 20 points in a loss to Lake Washington in the quartefinals and nine points in a win over Everett in the opening round. Completed three double-doubles in the four games, adding a tournament-best 55 rebounds, six assists, four steals and seven blocks.

Morgan Greene, White River girls basketball — Scored 10 points in the Hornets’ loss to Prosser in the third-fifth place game at the 2A state tournament, a team-high 11 points in a loss to Burlington-Edison in the semifinals and eight points in a win over Sequim in the quarterfinals. Added 14 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in the three games.

Hope Hassmann, Tahoma girls basketball — Scored a game-high 21 points in the Bears’ win over Kamiakin in the third-fifth place game at the 4A state tournament, a game-high 15 points in a loss to Camas in the semifinals and a game-high 24 points in a win over Gonzaga Prep in the quarterfinals. Added 17 rebounds, 11 assists, eight steals and two blocks in the three games.

Vivian Kingston, White River girls basketball — Scored a team-high 16 points in the Hornets’ loss to Prosser in the third-fifth place game at the 2A state tournament, five points in a loss to Burlington-Edison in the semifinals and six points in a win over Sequim in the quarterfinals. Added 23 rebounds, one assist, three steals and five blocks in the three games.

Aaliyeh Martin, Annie Wright girls basketball — Scored a game-high 24 points, and added four rebounds, one assist and three steals in a 1A state opening round loss to Cashmere.

Ryah McGriff, Emerald Ridge girls basketball — Scored four points in the Jaguars’ loss to Woodinville in the fourth-sixth place game at the 4A state tournament, 15 points in a win over Bellarmine Prep in the consolation round and six points in a loss to Kamiakin in the quarterfinals. Added 25 rebounds, two assists, two steals and nine blocks in the four games.

Jaleigha Robinson, Lincoln girls basketball — Scored six points in the Abes’ loss to Stanwood in the fourth-sixth place game at the 3A state tournament, a team-high 25 points in a win over Meadowdale in the consolation round, three points in a loss to Lake Washington in the quarterfinals and a team-high 13 points in a win over Everett in the opening round. Added 17 rebounds, seven assists and six steals in the four games.

Jazmyn Shipp, Bonney Lake girls basketball — Scored a team-high 11 points, and added 12 rebounds, three assists and one block in a 3A state opening round loss to Meadowdale.

Kiara Stone, Bellarmine Prep girls basketball — Scored a game-high 34 points in the Lions’ win over Davis in the opening round at the 4A state tournament, 16 points in a loss to Eastlake in the quarterfinals and 12 points in a loss to Emerald Ridge in the consolation round. Added 16 rebounds, four assists and three steals in the three games.

Iliayah Wallis-Caw, Auburn Mountainview girls basketball — Scored a team-high 11 points, and added six rebounds and three steals in a 3A state opening round loss to Lakeside of Seattle.

Kylie Waltermeyer, Tumwater girls basketball — Scored a game-high 19 points in the T-Birds’ win over Enumclaw in the opening round at the 2A state tournament, a game-high 14 points in a loss to Burlington-Edison in the quarterfinals and a team-high 12 points in a loss to Sequim in the consolation round. Added 27 rebounds, six assists and 13 steals in the three games.
