VOTE for the North Jersey Softball Player of the Week for May 20-26

After a fun start to the high school softball playoffs, it's time to look back on the best performances.

Read about the players who stood out last week and let us know who you think should be the North Jersey Player of the Week in the poll at the bottom of this page.

Voting closes at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Christina Buchman, New Milford

The senior had a combined 18 strikeouts in wins over Park Ridge and Butler in the first round of the North 1, Group 1 Tournament. She also had three RBI in the two games. New Milford takes on defending sectional champs Cedar Grove in the quarterfinals.

Gianna DiMeglio, IHA

The senior shortstop handled every defensive chance flawlessly in the Blue Eagles win over Ramapo in the county final while also doubling and scoring a run. She also scored two runs in a win over Holy Angels to seal a perfect 6-0 record for IHA in conference play.

Emma Kulish, Pompton Lakes

The sophomore had three doubles and scored two runs as the Cardinals rallied from an early deficit to beat Dumont in the first round of the North 1, Group 2 Tournament. For the week, she was 4-7 at the plate with three RBI.

Natalie Luftman, Glen Rock

The Panthers scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Demarest in the first round of the State Tournament and beat Hawthorne 5-0 to clinch an unbeaten NJIC Colonial season. Luftman scored three runs and struck out 19 batters in the two games.

Nina Sarlo, Bergen Tech

Sarlo recorded the 154th hit of her career in the Knights first round State Tournament win over West Orange tying her sister Gianna for the school record. In the win, she was 3-4 with six RBI. The Knights resume their season Tuesday against Livingston.

Giana Yaniero, Rutherford

The Bulldogs have outscored their last three opponents 38-0, including a 17-0 win over McNair in the first round of the North 2, Group 2 Tournament. Yaniero has allowed just two hits in her last 14 innings or work, while striking out 36.
