As the high school sports season nears its close, Salem-area athletes are still putting in top performances in a variety of sports.

This week's Maps Credit Union High School Athlete of the Week nominees are:

  • Lincoln Basl and Jacob Hoda, Sprague boys tennis

  • Reese Beyrouty and Elisabeth Nickel, Sprague girls tennis

  • Bryson Nygren, Regis baseball

  • Aubrey Peil, West Salem softball

  • McKenzee Petersen, Silverton softball

  • Noah Scharer, South Salem baseball

Lincoln Basl and Jacob Hoda, Sprague boys tennis

Sprague's doubles duo of Lincoln Basl and Jacob Hoda beat Grant's Rafael Valverde and Alex Tadjedin, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, to win the boys consolation final at the 6A state tennis tournament.

Reese Beyrouty and Elisabeth Nickel, Sprague girls tennis

Sprague's doubles pair of Reese Beyrouty and Elisabeth Nickel topped Roseburg's Kamryn Wattman and Addison Roberts to win the girls consolation final at the 6A state tennis tournament.

Bryson Nygren, Regis baseball

Regis junior Bryson Nygren threw a complete game, struck out 16 batters, walked just one, and did not allow an earned run during a 1-0 loss to North Douglas in the quarterfinals of the 2A/1A baseball state tournament.

Aubrey Peil, West Salem softball

Over West Salem softball's last seven games, sophomore outfielder Aubrey Peil went 10-for-20 (.500) with six RBI, two doubles, a home run, and two stolen bases for the Titans.

McKenzee Petersen, Silverton softball

In two playoff wins, Silverton softball junior McKenzee Petersen threw two complete games and struck out 11 batters, walked just one, and held opponents to three runs over 13.0 innings. She also went 4-for-8 with three RBI and a home run.

Noah Scharer, South Salem baseball

In three playoff games, South Salem baseball junior center fielder Noah Scharer went 8-for-11 with three home runs, two doubles, eight RBI, and three stolen bases while hitting out of the leadoff spot for the Saxons.
