In the final week of the track and field regular season, several athletes from the Salem area produced noteworthy marks ahead of their respective district meets.

This week's Maps Credit Union High School Athlete of the Week nominees are:

JD Arthur, Silverton track and field

Silverton junior JD Arthur won at 800 meters with a season-best time of 1 minute, 57.19 seconds in a home meet on May 1. That's the sixth-fastest time in the state this year among 5A athletes.

Jordan Braziel, Dallas track and field

Dallas junior Jordan Braziel won the shot put with a personal best throw of 47 feet, 6.5 inches at a MWC meet on May 1. Braziel's mark is the seventh-best in the state this season among 5A athletes.

Riley Burns, Stayton track and field

Stayton senior Riley Burns ran a personal best time of 42.53 seconds in the 300 meter hurdles at the Stayton invite on April 27. That's the eighth-fastest time in the state among 4A boys this season.

Haley Butenschoen, Stayton track and field

Stayton junior Haley Butenschoen won at 1,500 meters with a personal best time of 4 minutes, 55.35 seconds at the Regis Community Twilight Meet on May 3. Her time is the third-fastest in the state this season among 4A athletes.

Anna Button, Dallas track and field

Dallas senior Anna Button won the shot put — and eclipsed her previous personal best by more than a foot — with a throw of 37 feet, 1.5 inches at a MWC meet on May 1. Button's mark is the sixth-best in the state this season among 5A athletes.

Noah Dettwyler, Salem Academy track and field

At the Regis Community Twilight meet on May 3, Salem Academy junior Noah Dettwyler placed second in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 41.21 seconds — the second-fastest in the state this season among 2A athletes. He also placed fourth at 400 meters with a time of 52.68 seconds that ranks sixth among 2A athletes.

David Hari, Silverton track and field

During a MWC home meet, Silverton senior David Hari placed second in the long jump with a personal best of 21 feet, 9 inches. Hari's mark is the fourth-best in the state this season by a 5A athlete and eclipsed his previous personal best by nearly a foot.

Hadley Hughes, Willamina track and field

Willamina freshman Hadley Hughes uncorked the ninth-best javelin throw in the state this season with a winning mark of 130 feet, 8 inches in a District 2 3A league meet on May 1.

Celia James, Salem Academy track and field

Salem Academy junior Celia James placed fourth at 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 25.63 seconds at the Regis Community Twilight Meet on May 3. Her time is the second-fastest in the state this season among 2A athletes.

Isabel Zamora Mercado, McKay track and field

McKay senior Isabel Zamora Mercado clocked two personal bests in as many days last week. She placed seventh at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays in the 100 meter hurdles in 15.85 seconds — the eighth-fastest time in the state this season among 5A athletes. The next day at the Stayton Invite, Zamora Mercado won the 300 meter hurdles in 47.53 seconds, good for the seventh-fastest time in the state among 5A athletes this spring.

Joaquin Parsons, Woodburn track and field

Woodburn junior Joaquin Parsons won at 100 meters with a personal-best of 11.14 seconds during a home MWC meet on May 1. Parson's time is the sixth-fastest in the state this year by a 5A athlete.

Lillian Pickett, Cascade track and field

Cascade junior Lillian Pickett won at 100 meters with a personal best time of 12.94 at the Wally Ciochetti Invitational on May 3. Pickett's time is the eighth fastest in the state this year among 4A athletes.

Merced Ward, Dallas track and field

On May 1, Dallas freshman Merced Ward won the 300 meter hurdles in a conference meet at Silverton with a personal best time of 48.57 seconds. That ranks 10th in the state among 5A athletes this season.

Alyse Williams, Kennedy track and field

Kennedy senior Alyse Williams won the long jump with a personal best mark of 16 feet, 3.75 inches at a 2A SD1 meet on May 1. She now owns the second-best jump in the state among 2A athletes.

Elijah Willis, Silverton track and field

During a MWC home meet on May 1, Silverton junior Elijah Willis won the javelin with personal best throw of 172 feet, 1 inch. That's the second-best throw in the state this season by a 5A athlete.
