Vote for the Louisville-area high school Student of the Week

The two nominees for Courier Journal Student of the Week are strong students who are using their gifts to serve others.

Read about them and help select the best of the best. Voting is open until noon Thursday, April 18. You can vote at the bottom of this story.

High school principals, teachers, guidance counselors and district officials are invited to nominate students each week based on outstanding achievement or community service.

We will announce the top vote-getter each Friday.

The nomination period and poll voting will open every Monday and close at noon each Thursday. Students will be featured online and in the Sunday Courier Journal. Schools can nominate students using this link: http://bit.ly/3SaSNOZ.

Learn about the Student of the Week nominees:

Cooper Petaja, Oldham County High School: Cooper is a very well-rounded individual who has been involved in a wide range of interests at Oldham County High School. He has completed coursework in both the cinematography and video production pathway and the wood product manufacturing pathway. He is a worship leader of our school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter, and he is a weekly member of the praise band at his church. He has also been a LaGrange Rotary Student of the Month.

Angelo Centeno, Saint Xavier High School: Angelo plans to travel to Bungoma, Kenya, to serve the students at St X’s brother school after graduation. He plans to join the Xaverian Brothers as his vocation. He recently was featured in The Record. He taught himself Swahili and is a great student and a fantastic person.
