VOTE: Who is the Herald-Times Athlete of the Week for April 8-13?

Time to vote to determine who will be the Herald-Times Athlete of the Week for April 8-13.

Congrats to last week's winner, North sprinter Jaidyn Johnson, who turned around and had another mammoth performance at the Ben Davis Relays.

Remember to vote as much as you like for the athlete(s) of your choice. Voting ends on Thursday at noon. Here are this week's nominees:

Ally Bland, Edgewood softball

Sophomore pitcher had 30 strikeouts in three games only giving up six earned runs in a tie with Bedford North Lawrence, win over New Castle and a narrow loss to Beech Grove. Also had five hits at the plate.

Delanie Davis, Eastern Greene softball

Sophomore went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI, including a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh that gave the T-Birds their first win of the year, 5-4 over Monrovia.

Jack Holden, North boys track

Junior had a strong weekend, starting with a fourth place finish in the fast mile at the Franklin Central Showcase in an outdoor best 4:15.19. Followed up on Saturday with legs on the winning Giant Medley Relay and the runner-up 1,600 relay as the Cougars won the team title.

Marley Jackson, Edgewood girls' tennis

Sophomore helped the Mustangs pick up a pair of 3-2 WIC wins over West Vigo and Northview. The big win against the Vikings came at No. 1 doubles, where Jackson and Sophia Kapperman rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory to clinch it. Against the Knights, Jackson was playing 3 singles and again rallied, beating Anna Keith 6-7(5), 6-3, (12-10).

Lexi Kollbaum, South girls track

Freshman had a day at the Franklin Central Mile Showcase, placing second in her heat in 5:08.85, which translates to a 5:08.05 in the 1,600, which may be the fastest any Panther frosh has run that event.

James Lewis, Eastern Greene boys track

Started off by breaking the school record in the 100 dash with a 10.97 and winning the long jump (20-3½) in the home opener. Then was named athlete of the meet at the North Knox Invitational, winning the 100, 200 and anchoring the 1,600 relay to a win and was second in long jump.

Connor Osborne, South baseball

Junior went 5-for-6 with a double, homer, two walks and three RBI, scoring four runs as the Panthers swept a road trip doubleheader at East Central.

Liam Smith, North baseball

Sophomore had a big day in a doubleheader sweep of Martinsville, going 5-for-8 with three RBI, slugging three doubles and scoring three runs.

Roman Valentine, Eastern Greene golf/track

Senior had a busy weekend. On Friday night, competed in four events at the North Knox Invite taking fifth in both hurdles, fourth in pole vault and on the winning 1,600 relay. Then on Saturday morning, fired an 85 to lead all area golfers in the Edgewood Invitational at Cascades.

Gavin Whitfield, Eastern Greene baseball

Junior third baseman had a big week helping the T-Birds go 3-0, going 7-of-15 with eight RBI and five doubles. Also scored seven runs.
