Here are nominees to be named the Gastonia and Shelby area’s top high school basketball players for the week of Feb. 5-10, 2024.

Our weekly top performers list and athlete of the week nominees are compiled from information provided to The Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star by coaches, athletic directors or team statisticians through emails, MaxPreps or mentioning @JoeLHughesII in game results and highlights posted to social media.

Boys basketball

Jackson Fannon, East Lincoln: Averaged 19 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Mustangs picked up wins over Foard and St. Stephens.

Kee’Donn Linney, Kings Mountain: Averaged 11 points and five rebounds as the Mountaineers earned wins over North Gaston, Shelby and Forestview.

Zii Phillips, Hunter Huss: Averaged 13 points per game to help the Huskies to wins over South Point, West Meck and Stuart Cramer.

Elijah Sherrill, Highland Tech: Scored 31 points to go with eight rebounds and six assists as the Rams took a key Southern Piedmont 1A/2A matchup over Cherryville, 67-54.

Kamari Surratt, Burns: Averaged a double-double (18 points, 11 rebounds) as the Bulldogs won matchups against Thomas Jefferson and Bessemer City.

Braylen Todd, Gaston Day: Averaged 14 points and 2.3 rebounds as the Spartans won two out of three games in the NCISAA Metrolina Athletic Conference (MAC) tournament this past week.

Girls basketball

Maddie Frank, South Point: Averaged 13.5 points and 6.5 rebounds as the Lady Raiders split their matchups this past week.

Myla Hoover, Hunter Huss: Averaged 26.5 points per game as the Huskies split matchups this past week.

Bailey Maiers, Highland Tech: Led her team with 16 points as the Rams downed Cherryville, 49-24.

Blair Riley, Forestview: Averaged 13.5 points in wins over Ashbrook and Kings Mountain.

Ally Smith, North Lincoln: Averaged 16 points per game as the Knights split games last week.

Monica Surratt, Crest: Averaged 22 points this past week, helping the Chargers to victory over Stuart Cramer while contributing in a loss to South Point.
