Here are nominees for Gastonia and Shelby area baseball and softball players of the week for March. 18-23, 2024.

Baseball Players of the Week

Cameron Barnette, East Gaston: Was 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and a run scored in an 11-1 win over Kings Mountain. The following night, he had a hit, RBI and scored a run in a 10-0 win over Shelby. He also pitched five innings, allowing no runs on two hits with 11 strikeouts.

Patrick Blee, South Point: Finished the week 5-for-8 with a home run, three RBIs and scored four more runs as the Red Raiders swept a two-game set with Forestview, along with a 12-0 win over Ashbrook.

Zach Camacho, Stuart Cramer: Batted .500 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored, helping the Storm earn a two-game sweep of North Gaston and an 11-3 victory over Highland Tech.

Kellen Karr, North Lincoln: Pitched six innings without allowing a run or a hit with 13 strikeouts in his team’s 3-2 loss to Foard.

Landry Ohmstead, Crest: Was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in a 23-0 win over Hunter Huss. Ohmstead followed by going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in a 14-1 win over Chase, then a 2-for-2 outing with two RBIs and two runs scored in a 14-0 win over Huss.

Brayden Patrick, Kings Mountain: Was 3-for-3 with two home runs, seven RBIs and scored another run in a 19-4 win over Ashbrook.

Softball Players of the Week

Peyton Cook, Burns: Was 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and four runs scored in a 19-2 win over Bessemer City. She followed with two hits in an 8-7 win over Hibriten.

Paige Fleming, Kings Mountain: Was 2-for-2 with two home runs and four RBIs in a 9-0 win over Forestview. She was also 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored in a 16-0 win over Palisades.

Aidan Ledbetter, Crest: Pitched a four-inning perfect game, striking out 10 Hunter Huss batters in a 15-0 win. She also was 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. She also allowed two runs on three hits in three innings against South Point, striking out six in a 17-2 Charger win.

Jordan McCorkle, East Gaston: Was 3-for-3 with a home run, double, three RBIs and a run scored in a 19-3 win over Shelby. Earlier in the week, she hit a solo home run and reached thrice more on walks, scoring on each in a 10-4 win over North Gaston.

Alexis McSwain, Cherryville: Was 5-for-6 with a home run, double, four RBIs and two runs scored as the Lady Ironmen picked up wins over Stuart Cramer and Chase.

Emery Pethel, East Lincoln: Batted .600 last week with a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored, helping the Lady Mustangs to wins in two of their three games.
