Your vote counts. Washington state’s primary election is Aug. 2, how and where to vote

Check your mailbox, your Washington state primary election ballot could be waiting to be filled out for the Aug. 2 election.

Your primary election ballot will include candidates for U.S. Senate, U.S. Representative, Washington State Supreme Court, Washington Secretary of State, state legislature and other judicial offices.

There are 1,094 total candidates running across 609 various offices in the state, according to the Washington Secretary of State.

Where’s my ballot?

Ballots were mailed out to all registered voters on July 15.

If you did not receive one, are not registered to vote or need to change your mailing address, your deadline is July 25 to make these changes online.

How do I vote?

Simply follow the instructions inside your ballot, cast your votes, sign your return envelope and drop off your ballot in an official drop box or return it by mail. Ballots must be returned to an official drop box by 8 p.m. on Aug. 2, or have a postmark no later than Aug. 2 to be counted.

Ballots are recommended to be mailed by July 26 by the U.S. Postal Service, according to a news release from the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office.

Voting in person is also available at voting center locations or local election offices. Voting closes on Aug. 2 at 8 p.m.

Who is on my ballot?

With a total of 1,094 candidates in the election statewide, choosing could be overwhelming.

Information on each candidate can be found on the Washington Secretary of State website.

Here are the number of candidates in each race:

Secretary of State: 8 candidates.

U.S. Senator: 18 candidates.

Congressional positions: 68 candidates.

Legislative positions: 295 candidates.

Local Precinct Committee Officers: 874 candidates.

Other local county races: 447 candidates.
