Meet the Battle Creek Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Oaklawn Hospital.

Each week during the high school sports season, we will ask our readers to vote for the top performance of the week in all the winter sports, taking a look at events from Monday-Saturday.

Marshall Boys Track

At the 35-team Grand Rapids Elite Challenge Invitational, Marshall's Jack Bidwell had a hand in two school records. In the 1600 run, Bidwell broke a 44-year old record by a whopping six seconds, running a time of 4:14.2, which places him second in the Division 2 state rankings. Bidwell then led Marshall to victory in the distance medley, anchoring another school record.

Lakeview defeated Harper Creek in the All-City lacrosse tournament final, 5-4, in triple overtime. The final goal came after Lakeview called a timeout in the third overtime to set up a play where Spartan senior Dieter Bloch scored the game-winning goal on an assist by Aiden Downey with 2:05 remaining in the extra period. Bloch also had two goals in the semifinal win over Pennfield.

Senior Brady Vette helped Harper Creek reach the finals of the All-City lacrosse tournament final and was key in keeping the Beavers in the championship hunt before suffering a hard-fought loss to Lakeview in the final, 5-4, in triple overtime. Vette scored three times in Harper Creek 11-0 win over Pennfield in the All-City semifinal.

Marshall Girls Soccer

Marshall earned a 3-0 win over Harper Creek in a battle between the defending co-champs of the Interstate 8 Conference as the Redhawks take over first place in the league this year. Marshall's Addison Waito had a hand in all three goals, scoring on a penalty kick, had an assist on the second goal and scored the third goal herself. She now has seven goals and four assists on the season.
