Vote for the Austin-area girls high school athlete of the week
It's time to make your choice for the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-Area Girls Athlete of the Week for April 8-13. Rouse soccer player JJ Arellano was voted the top girls athlete of the week for April 1-6.
This week's list includes three softball players and two soccer players who ended their seasons at the UIL state tournament:
Skylar Brown, Llano softball
Brown pitched two five-inning complete-game no-hitters, as the 18-2 Yellowjackets beat Ingram Moore 12-0 and Florence 12-0. Brown finished with 13 strikeouts in each game and has all 18 wins in the circle for Llano.
AJ Carlson, Westlake soccer
Carlson scored the only goal in the Chaps' 1-0 win over Rockwall in the Class 6A semifinals of the UIL state soccer tournament and also played brilliantly in the 1-0 state championship loss to Prosper.
Kaylee McKinley, Hendrickson soccer
McKenny scored the only goal in the Hawks' Class 5A state semifinals loss to Collegeville Heritage at the UIL state soccer tournament. The junior striker had 26 goals and 11 assists on the season.
Skye Perez, Hyde Park softball
Perez hit her 12th home run of the season, setting a school record, to lead Hyde Park past St. Anthony 11-0.
Brooke Wells, Vista Ridge softball
Wells had four hits, including three home runs, as the Rangers beat Vandegrift 16-1 in four innings.
