Vote for the Austin-area girls high school athlete of the week
It's time to make your choice for the Covert Chevrolet Bastrop Austin-Area Girls Athlete of the Week for April 22-27. Bowie softball player Anya German was voted the top girls athlete of the week for April 15-20.
This week's list is made up of five softball players:
Jessica Cantrell, Elgin softball
Cantrell pitched a 17-strikeout no-hitter as Elgin beat McCallum 11-2 in a one-game bi-district playoff. For the season, Cantrell has 268 strikeouts against 30 walks.
Cambree Creager, Georgetown softball
Creager pitched just one inning as the Eagles blasted Eastside Early College 21-0 in a three-inning playoff win, but struck out all three hitters to reach 550 strikeouts for her career. Cambree is 13-0 with a 0.47 ERA on the season.
Chloe Ellis, Gateway College Prep softball
Ellis struck out 36 total hitters — 19 in a 3-2, eight-inning win and then 17 more in an 8-0 win — and allowed only three hits in a pair of 3-2 and 8-0 bi-district wins over China Spring.
Addison Otto, Smithville softball
Otto pitched a three-inning shutout, striking out all nine batters as Smithville beat Houston Washington 21-0 in three innings. She also hit a grand slam.
Julie Rodriguez, Lake Travis softball
Rodriguez, a freshman pitcher, scattered six hits and struck out seven as Lake Travis beat Vista Ridge 5-3 in a one-game bi-district playoff.
