Volunteers, Chillicothe Monument clean Soldier's Circle in time for Memorial Day

Chillicothe Monument and Hardy Memorials did a massive cleaning at Soldier's Circle at Greenlawn Cemetery on May 11.

This was the first organized “group” effort since the 1940s to do cleaning and improvements at the historical Soldier’s Square.

Eric Gunnoe of Chillicothe Monument was one of the main driver's of the effort. Gunnoe had been aware that Johna Pulver from Ross County Veterans Office had been cleaning on the stones. Pulver had set a personal goal to get all the stones cleaned and the area restored before she retired. Gunnoe contacted Pulver earlier this year and offered his assistance.

Around 80 people showed up on May 11 to help.

Gunnoe's team sprayed each one after they were scrubbed with a product called D2. The product continues to work on the stones. They will become brighter over time. The solution kills lichen and deters regrowth.

Some of the monuments were also leveled by Gunnoe's group.
