Volleyball roundup: Rochester, Taylorville set for rematch in regional final

TUESDAY'S RESULTS

CLASS 3A

At the Rochester Regional, Ellie Gegen and Hadleigh Maley combined for 24 kills and the No. 2 host Rockets rallied to a 16-25, 25-20, 25-23 victory over No. 5 Springfield High.

Rochester advances to the regional final on Thursday at 6 p.m. against No. 2 Taylorville, which downed No. 6 Jacksonville 25-19, 25-22 in its semifinal.

Rochester began the regular season with a 19-25, 25-21, 25-13 victory over Taylorville.

Gegen led the Rockets with 14 kills while Maley had 10 on Tuesday.

Peyton Zeidler added nine kills while Grace Jameson chipped in five. Charlotte Beatty totaled 38 assists while Sydney Dulin had 21 digs.

At the Decatur Eisenhower Regional, No. 7 Southeast dropped to No. 4 Mount Zion in three sets, 14-25, 25-22, 25-16 despite 19 kills and 10 digs from Jayla Davis.

Areonna Craine supplied 29 assists, 13 digs and two kills for the Spartans, who end the season 12-21 overall. Kallie Padgett chipped in six kills and 10 digs while Presley Werts had nine digs and an ace.

Mount Zion faces top-seeded Chatham Glenwood, which dispatched No. 8 Eisenhower, 25-13, 25-17, in the regional final on Thursday at 6 p.m.

At the Champaign Central Regional, top-seeded Lincoln thumped No. 8 Urbana, 25-5, 25-8. The Railsplitters will play No. 4 Champaign Central on Thursday at 6 p.m.

CLASS 2A

At the Williamsville Regional, Williamsville and Petersburg PORTA made the regional an all-Sangamo Conference final as each recorded semifinal wins on Tuesday.

Williamsville, the top seed, defeated No. 9 Lutheran 25-18, 25-15, and No. 4 PORTA outlasted No. 5 Sacred Heart-Griffin 25-17, 27-29, 26-24.

Williamsville and PORTA meet for the regional title at 6 p.m. Thursday.

At the Virden Regional, two more Sangamo teams will play for the title. Pleasant Plains, the second seed, plays third seed Athens at 6 on Thursday.

Plains cruised past No. 7 Pittsfield 25-18, 25-13 and Athens handled sixth seed Auburn 25-17, 25-18 to advance to the final.

At Wood River, No. 4 Carlinville beat No. 5 Alton Marquette 25-16, 25-21 and top-seeded Staunton recorded a 25-11, 25-12 over ninth seed Gillespie in the semifinals.

Carlinville and Staunton will play on Thursday for the regional championship at 6.

At Vandalia, second seed Hillsboro overcame a one-set deficit and got by eighth seed Litchfield 25-27, 25-14, 25-18, and No. 6 Pana’s season came to an end with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-19 loss to No. 3 Shelbyville in the semifinals.

Hillsboro and Shelbyville meet for the regional title at 6 on Thursday.

CLASS 1A

At the Jacksonville Routt Regional, the host Rockets and New Berlin both posted wins on Tuesday and the two teams will meet in the semifinals of the Class 1A Jacksonville Routt Regional.

Routt, the 12th seed, needed three sets to upset No. 6 Pawnee 18-25, 25-16, 25-13 in the quarterfinals. New Berlin, seeded third, swept 15th-seeded White Hall North Greene 25-21, 25-12 in another quarterfinal.

Routt will play New Berlin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Megan Marshall led Routt with eight blocks and Grace Cleveland had six kills. Brianna Rogers collected 13 digs and Jenna Varela finished with 16 assists.

New Berlin got four kills and 11 digs from Layla Hein, while Kaylee Cowhick provided 13 assists. Kami Sheedy led the Pretzels with six kills and Jenna McGath racked up eight service aces.

At the Raymond Lincolnwood Regional, fourth seed Nokomis throttled No. 14 Sandoval 25-4, 25-6 in the quarterfinals.

Nokomis plays No. 6 Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Christ Our Rock Lutheran ended No. 12 Mount Olive’s season with a 25-17, 25-21 quarterfinal victory.

Lizzy Hill and Becca Hill each served seven aces in Nokomis’ win. Becca Hill had a team-high nine assists and Kinley Stolte finished with eight digs. Mackenzie Mehochko put down six kills.

At Augusta Southeastern, fifth seed Rushville-Industry rallied and ousted No. 10 Havana 26-28, 25-17, 25-17 in the quarterfinals.

Rushville-Industry plays fourth seed Liberty in Wednesday’s semifinals at 7 p.m.
