Volleyball playoff brackets released: Here's who grabbed top seed

The Northern Section released its volleyball playoff brackets on Friday, with West Valley grabbing the top seed in Division III.

The Eagles are 38-6 and won the Northern Athletic League title behind seniors Shelbie Rogers (337 kills), Bentley Chaffin (214 kills) and Kayla Wiley (653 assists). They received a first-round bye and will host the winner of No. 4 Yreka-No. 5 Gridley on Oct. 26. Rounding out the D-III bracket are No. 2 Orland and No. 3 Oroville, who meet Oct. 26 for a berth in the finals.

The finals for all six divisions takes place Nov. 4 at Foothill High School.

The four-team Division II bracket features two semifinal matches on Oct. 26 between top-seeded Pleasant Valley and No. 4 Shasta, with two-seed Foothill hosting No. 3 Chico.

The 23-6 Cougars got 300 kills from senior Grace McQuoid in the regular season, while junior setter Evie Turner posted 637 assists.

The Wolves are 21-15 after going 5-5 in Eastern Athletic League play.

In Division IV, U-Prep lands in the No. 2 spot and hosts CORE Butte on Oct. 24. Senior Amiah Cornejo has fueled the Panthers as a hitter and setter with 298 kills and 131 assists, while Kassidy Conway has tossed up 472 assists.

The one-seed in D-IV is 30-6 Willow, which received a first-round bye. The Honkers take on the 4-5 winner of Pierce and Williams. The U-Prep-CORE Butte winner takes on the winner of No. 3 Colusa vs. No. 6 Paradise.

The Division V bracket has No. 8 Happy Camp at No. 1 Hamilton, No. 7 Mount Shasta at No. 2 East Nicolaus, No. 6 Durham at No. 3 Trinity and No. 5 Quincy at No. 4 Modoc. All first-round games are Oct. 24.

Fall River, the reigning NorCal Division VI champion, grabbed the No. seed in the Division VI field and received a first-round bye. The Bulldogs await the Oct. 24 winner of No. 6 Redding Christian at No. 3 Tulelake. Hailey Valdez leads Fall River (18-6) with 222 kills, while sophomore setter Reese Cassity had 507 assists on the year.

On the other side of the D-VI bracket is top seed Maxwell, which hosts the winner of No. 4 Loyalton and No. 5 Etna.

In Division VII, top-seeded Hayfork and second-seed Paradise Adventist Academy each have byes. The Timberjacks host the winner of No. 4 Butte Valley and No. 5 Chester while Paradise Adventist gets the 3-6 winner between Westwood and Princeton.
