Virginia Man Strikes Lottery Gold 24 Times in a Row

One Virginia man struck near-literal gold in a recent lottery drawing, taking home $120,000 after winning with 24 tickets on the same night.

Dennis Fears purchased 24 tickets at a 7-Eleven in Chesapeake, VA, using the same four "Pick 4" numbers on each one: a quad of eights.

As each ticket costs just a dollar, and Fears took home the maximum prize of $5,000 on each one, the man walked away with a profit of $119,976—prior to taxes, of course.

USA Today reports that a total of $8.98 million was won across players in the Aug. 25 drawing, with "Pick 4" offering a one in 10,000 chance of matching all four numbers in the correct order.

According to the publication, Fears told lottery officials that he has no concrete plans for his winnings so far.

Around the same time, a Seattle man hit it big in multiple ways. He was feeling lucky after rescuing a kitten at work and stopped by a convenience store on the way home, picking up a lottery ticket that he quickly forgot about.

A few days later, he scanned the ticket on his phone and was surprised to find a message encouraging him to "See Lottery Office." In just a matter of days, he and his wife became the proud owner of a cat named Peaches and $717,500 more than they had before.

The man told a local news affiliate that he'll be saving some of the winnings but plans to donate most of it to a variety of charities, as well as help his parents live more comfortably in their retirement. "My wife and I have everything we need. We just want to help others," he said.
