Virginia couple charged with murder after 7-year-old granddaughter mauled to death by dog
The grandparents of a 7-year-old Virginia girl mauled to death by their Rottweiler have been charged with her murder.
Stephen Christopher Kachmar, 60, and Penny Lee Bashlor, 64, have been indicted for the Jan. 29 death of their granddaughter, Olivia Floyd, who was attacked at their home in Waynesboro and died later at the hospital, according to the Waynesboro Police Department.
Kachmar and Bashlor have each been charged with non-capital murder, involuntary manslaughter, child abuse and possession of a vicious dog that led to the serious injury of a person.
If convicted, they face up to 70 years in prison.
Olivia’s parents, 39-year-old Brooks Anthony Floyd and 37-year-old Alicia Rene Floyd, have also been charged with cruelty/injury to a child.
Olivia, a second grader at Wilson Elementary School, “loved cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, unicorns and animals,” according to an online obituary.
“Olivia was a spunky, sweet and caring little girl who got along with everyone and loved life,” the obit reads.
The 4-year-old Rottweiler has since been euthanized.
