This Viral Video Shows You a Trick to Soften Butter in Minutes

We love butter. Like, we really love butter—so much, that we actually tested the most popular brands to see which butter is best.

You can make flavored butter to top a steak or spread a thick layer of Irish butter on fresh bread. But of course, the best thing to do with butter is bake. And if you’re a regular baker, you’ve definitely forgotten to take the butter out of the refrigerator to soften, leaving you to wonder if it’s possible to cream cold butter and sugar.

Well, thanks to this TikTok trick, you’ll have softened butter in no time!

How to Soften Butter Quickly

TikTok user @aldentediva has a fail-safe technique. All you have to do is stand the butter up on a plate or bowl, then fill a glass with hot water from the sink. Let the glass sit for about five minutes to warm up.

Then, pour out the water and put your heated glass on top of the stick of butter. Let it sit for five minutes, and voila! You’ve got softened butter that’s ready for your next batch of brownies or cookies.

How smart is this butter trick?

Of course, this isn’t the only method to soften butter quickly, but it’s definitely one of the easiest, especially if you want to keep your stick of butter intact.

How Long Does It Take for Butter to Soften with This Trick?

Softening butter under a hot glass will have that stick of butter soft and ready to cream with sugar in 10 minutes.
