Vikings star Alyssa Sutherland talks about Evil Dead Rise's wildest moments

Evil Dead Rise went viral earlier this year with its first trailer and that cheese grater scene, but we might want to prepare for even worse.

Vikings star Alyssa Sutherland takes on one of the lead roles as Ellie whose reunion with her estranged sister Beth (Lily Sullivan) takes a bloody turn when Ellie unwittingly becomes a Deadite.

While for Sutherland, the blood and gore became normalised as it's just a job at the end of the day, she did tease to Digital Spy that there were other moments where she couldn't believe what she was doing.

"What I love about film is that when you just stop and take in your surroundings, you're like, 'Oh my god, what am I doing today?'. I think those moments happen so much more on Evil Dead Rise because of the absurd things you're doing," she recalled.

"You go and you're like, 'Well, this day is going to be your really crazy day, but after this, things will probably calm down a little bit'. And then, of course, you go again the day after and it's ramped up and you're like, 'Oh god, we've gone up a notch'."

Of course, it's not just Sutherland involved in some wild moments for Evil Dead Rise as the trailer has teased that Beth gets a good covering in the red stuff, which was done practically as is the way on an Evil Dead movie.

"[I was] covered head to toe, slowly dipped into a massive tank, weighed down with 30 kilos of weights and a harness because you're buoyant in that blood, and then given Nell [Fisher], a nine-year-old to hold," Sullivan told Digital Spy.

"I'm quite claustrophobic so at one point when it's [high] and you're actually just treading water. That's the beauty of Evil Dead, it's all practical.

"You've got the crew coming out being like, 'Check out what we've made' and it's this drop slide where the blood opens up down a ramp and washes through one take. You're like, 'What is this?' and also, 'How rock and roll'. Everyone is 12 years old."

Sullivan also spoke to Digital Spy about her first reaction to the script, while writer/director Lee Cronin revealed that there's a second Bruce Campbell cameo in the movie.

Evil Dead Rise is released in cinemas on April 21.
