Vikings Reportedly Reach Agreement With Rick Dennison

Less than a week ago, the Minnesota Vikings made major headlines within the NFL. Why? They parted ways with assistant coach Rick Dennison because he refused to receive a vaccine for COVID-19. It appears the decision has been reversed.

According to Pro Football Talk, Dennison and the Vikings have “reached an agreement” that will keep him with the team for the 2021 season. The agreement is predicated on Dennison’s following of COVID-19 protocols, regardless of whether or not he’s vaccinated.

“Vikings and OL coach Rick Dennison have reached an agreement that allows him to remain with the team, per source,” Pro Football Talk said on Twitter.

“Basically, the Vikings and Rick Dennison have agreed that both sides will comply with whatever protocols apply, whether he’s vaccinated or not.”

From the sound of it, the Vikings won’t require Dennison to receive a vaccine. But he will be bound by the league’s protocols, which are much stricter for those who are unvaccinated.

Rick Dennison has served as the Vikings’ offensive line coach and run game coordinator for the past two seasons. It sounds like he’ll be with the organization for at least one more year.

The NFL requires Tier 1 staff members – which includes coaches, executives and equipment managers – to receive a vaccine for COVID-19. Those same individuals can be exempt from the requirement for religious or medical reasons. It was initially reported Dennison didn’t have an reason to qualify for exemption.

It sounds like Dennison and the Vikings have an arrangement in place to keep him with the organization for the upcoming season. It’ll be interesting to learn the details surrounding the compromise.
