Early on during Sunday’s devastating loss to the then-winless Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen suffered a high-ankle sprain and was downgraded to OUT for the remainder of the contest.

With just five games remaining for the 5-7 Vikings, there’s some concern that Thielen could be out for the rest of the 2021 season. But with Week 14 just underway, the Minnesota squad reportedly got some encouraging news regarding their star wideout.

Thielen has not been placed on IR yet — leaving the door open for a possible return. When speaking to reporters this morning, head coach Mike Zimmer indicated that a return for the star offensive weapon is entirely in the question, per Vikings insider Courtney Cronin of ESPN.

Through 12 games this season, Adam Thielen leads the Vikings in receiving touchdowns (10) and ranks second in receiving yards (686). Luckily for Minnesota, the team’s receiving corps is in good hands with superstar pass catcher Justin Jefferson. With Thielen out for the majority of Sunday’s game, Jefferson exploded for 182 yards and a touchdown on 11 receptions.

On the brink of NFC playoff contention, the Vikings still could make a postseason push if they can weather the storm without Thielen and star running back Dalvin Cook (shoulder).

Minnesota will look to bounce back with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday night.

While it appears a return for Thielen is possible at some point this season, seeing action in this week’s game is highly unlikely. He did not participate in Monday’s walkthrough and will likely notch another DNP on Tuesday.
