The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has stirred strong responses in New Jersey, where communities, organizations, faith groups and students are organizing demonstrations, rallies, vigils and educational and dialogue events.

Upcoming events include the following:

Nov. 8

Jersey City Demands Ceasefire Now - End Tax Funded Genocide and Terror: In solidarity with Drew Washington. Rally at 5:30 p.m. at Jersey City Hall. Everyone can sign up to speak at the 6 p.m. council meeting.

NJ Israeli-American Council Event to Urge Freedom for Hostages of Hamas: The event, at 7:30 p.m. at Kaplen JCC on the Palisades, 41 E. Clinton Ave., Tenafly, will feature a local family of one of the hostages. Speakers will be Yael Alexander, mother of hostage Edan Alexander, and his sister Mika, both of Tenafly. Israeli pop star David Broza will perform.

Nov. 9

Silent Protest in Solidarity with Gaza: Demand for Immediate Ceasefire: The Palestinian American Community Center has called upon its partners and community members to gather in protest in response to the ongoing Israeli siege and the human toll it has taken. We will be taping "ceasefire" on our mouths to make a symbolic statement. This event is part of a National Shut Down Day, with individuals across the nation joining in to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. From 3 to 5 p.m., outside Congressman Bill Pascrell's office, 200 Federal Plaza, Paterson. Livestream: PACC Facebook Live; PACC Youtube Live.
