The blood facial, known affectionately as a "Vampire Facial" involves drawing blood from the arm, and separating the platelets into a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) using a centrifuge. This plasma is then mixed with either Restylane or Juvederm, and injected into the face.
The expected benefits of the procedure are to stimulate collagen production, creating new skin, as well as removing fine lines & acne scars. The goal is younger, firmer-looking skin.

Guys, you may have seen this past March that Kim Kardashian chose to get a blood facial. Commonly known as the "Vampire Facial," this procedure isn't just cringe-worthy, but it runs up a tab of between $1200.00 - $1500.00 per 45-minute session.
This pricey facial is such a hit among Hollywood stars that it's said a gift certificate for the procedure was part of the Academy Awards gift bag this year. Trademarked by Alabama doctor Charles Runels, it consists of drawing blood from the arm and then separating the platelets into a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) using a centrifuge. This plasma is mixed with either Restylane or Juvederm and injected into the face.
The procedure Kim had done was slightly different, where the doctor used a Dermapen, which uses 9 tiny needles to puncture the skin, creating tiny wounds to which the platelet mixture is added.
Doctors say clients will typically see results within a few days, and that the benefits will last for 4-6 months. It is also said that to get the best results, an individual should have the procedure initially done three times, at 4-6 week intervals. That's pretty expensive!
A few doctors have weighed in, however, and say that Kim's blood facial isn't really realistic. When the blood platelets are separated out, the mixture used is clear (or yellowish), not red. So this gruesome appearance isn't the reality of the treatment. They also claim it's not as painful as Kim made it seem!
