The 4 essential layering pieces you need in your closet

By Luella & June

This time of year calls for layers – lots of them! (Especially when it's 29 degrees and sleeting like it is today.) Since I never know what the Texas weather is going to give me, layering offers plenty of options.

My favorite gingham shirt is always a perfect place to start. Not only is it a classic pattern, but the blue-and-white color combo lends itself to just about any other pairing. I like starting with a printed collared shirt (I love this one, too) because it gives you just a peek of pattern underneath all of the other layers.

My cozy cashmere sweater (I want one in every. single. color.) is a daily wear for me and keeps me nice and warm but is still ultra lightweight.

Next up: my very favorite Adrienne Landau leopard-print vest - which, by the way, is on sale right now. The print is so good and makes bundling up all the more fun. Can we talk about Adrienne Landau for a second? When it comes to fur, her collection is one of my favorites. Her pieces are always super chic (how much fun are these?!) and the prices won't break the bank. A lot of her pieces are even on Last Call. Check out this fur vest that rings in at under $150, and this one is kind of a steal, too, if you ask me. I sure wouldn't mind having a pair of her earmuffs today (gift from Santa, perhaps?!).

To finish it off, my J.Crew jacket is always an easy piece. I've had it for over five years and it remains one of my very favorites. It's lightweight, but warm, and it's got the boyfriend look to it.
