Style Resolutions: Trends to Trash and Trends to Try

Trash: Bright Faux Furs

We love the faux fur trend, but…purple!?! No thanks. We’ll take our furs in black or neutral.

Try: Bejewled Adornments

Major embellishments were all over the runway this year, from sweaters to shoes. Start small with an adorable accessory to make sure you don’t overdose on the bling.

Trash: Neon

Neon just refuses to die, and we’ll admit to partaking a little too much in the trend this past year. For 2013, resolve to find a fresh new color palette, like the rich jewel tones spotted on the spring runways.

Try: Velvet

This rich, luxurious fabric might remind you of childhood, but it’s so much more than that. Try it on blazers, t-shirts, or leggings for a luxe addition to your wardrobe.

Trash: Peplum

2012 saw a lot of peplum, and even though we admire it on celebs, we’re just plain sick of it. Onto the next one!

Try: Leather

Leather was hot in 2012 and is going to be even hotter this year. Try it on a skirt instead of the pants we’ve been seeing all year.

Trash: Overalls

We're a little confused by the resurgence of this style. Take our advice and leave it on the playground.

Try: Printed Denim

We were all about the printed denim in 2012, and this year will be no exception. Look for even more intricate patterns and finishes hitting the stores.

Trash: Headdresses

Hair adornments can be enhance your look,, but in some cases, they just make you look like you’re wearing a costume. We’ll save these for Halloween.

Try: Print-Mixing

We just can’t get enough of mixing our favorite patterns and prints! Stay in the same color family to achieve a chic look.

Trash: Skulls

Seriously overplayed in 2012, skulls will be banished to the back of our closets this year.

Try: Cropped Pants

This versatile style can be worn with heels and flats. Expect to buy multiple pairs for spring.

Trash: Flatforms

Last time we checked, wedges were supposed to enhance your legs, not just look like resting blocks for your feet.
